Riverhead Police responded to multiple 911 reports of a shooting around 1:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at the Riverpoint Apartment Complex located on East Main Street, in Riverhead, said Det. Michael Schmidt.

Additional 911 calls reported that people had been shot during the incident. Responding officers initially located two gunshot victims inside one of the apartments, a 15-year-old male and a 46-year-old female, Schmidt said.

Both of the victims were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Ambulance. A third shooting victim, a 29-year-old male, later arrived at Peconic Bay Medical Center by private vehicle, he said.

The older male victim was treated for multiple gunshot wounds to both legs and the female was treated for a gunshot to her knee, police said.

The 15-year-old male was transferred to Stonybrook University Medical Center due to the serious nature of his injuries, which included gunshot wounds to his stomach and arm, Schmidt said.

All of the injuries, while serious in nature, are considered non-life threatening, he added.

An investigation, which is ongoing, found that two men entered the apartment and fired multiple rounds, Schmidt said.

"The incident does not appear to be a random act and at least one of the victims may have been the intended target," he said.
